This Ministry was founded by John and Kathleen Chadbourne who had the vision to serve needy people and to offer shelter to those in crisis. Through their efforts the Ministry incorporated on October 23, 2005.
Through the assistance of many volunteers, supporters, contributions from the community, and operating space donated by the congregation at College Heights UMC, Warm Blessings was able to open on July 17, 2006.
We served only 2 people on opening night, but on our 1st anniversary the Soup Kitchen served 87 individuals. Since then, we have served meals to as many as 91 individuals on one occasion. We celebrated our 3rd anniversary on July 31, 2008 with cake, ice cream, and birthday decorations. We are now into our 4th year and look forward to many more years serving the Elizabethtown area at our renovated site located at 609 E. Dixie (on the south side of Elizabethtown by E-Town Donut).
The move has allowed us to add Wednesday night to the serving schedule as well as offer other supportive services. We now have showers on hand and on a limited basis can offer the use of a washer and dryer. We continue to run our 1991 Ford van for pick-up within the Elizabethtown area for those who need transportation.
